2020 Spring Masters

2020 Spring Masters

Whether you have never picked up an oar, or rowed in high school or college, we welcome all masters (adults ages 21 and up) into the Spring Masters Program. For those who are new to rowing, you will learn to row the basic stroke, using Concept 2 Rowing Machines and on the water rowing. Opportunities to compete in regattas will be made available for experienced rowers. Those who opt to sign up for regattas should be willing to commit to a consistent training schedule, be willing to accept coach’s feedback and be ready to support and compete with your teammates.

  • Join us on Wednesday, Feb 26, 7:30pm, at our new CCRA Indoors location (210 6th St, Verplanck) for a Masters Spring season kickoff meeting.
  • Runs from February 25 – June 7
  • Coached and non-coached practices at CCRA Indoors, on Lake Meahagh and on the Hudson River at Cortlandt Waterfront Park. Click here for a map of all CCRA locations.
  • For those opting to compete in regattas: goal is to get to set boats assigned by Head Coach that you will regularly practice with in preparation for regattas. Must commit to minimum of 3 practice sessions with registered boat before regatta.
  • May attend any Row to Music session free of charge.
  • Regatta fee for CCRA’s Third Annual Ice Cutter Master’s Regatta on April 19 is included in the spring program fee.
  • Includes one indoor tank session at West Point, March 1, 12noon-pm.

Rowers must register within two weeks of the spring season start, or wait until the summer session.

Program Fee $240 per rower.

Coached practice weekly:

  • Sunday: on water 7:30am–9:30am (7:00am-9:30am when outdoors)

Weekly informal rows led by experienced, approved masters rowers. These sessions will be indoors, until the weather conditions are favorable:

  • Saturday:
    • 8:00am-9:15am (indoors)
    • 7:30am-9:15am when we move outdoors. This is a novice-focused row. Experienced rowers are encouraged to share their expertise at this session.
  • Wednesday: indoors-only, 7:30pm-9pm
  • Friday, starting in May: 5:30am-7am. This is a ‘hard-core’ row for experienced rowers.

Additional independent non-coached rows are arranged on participant basis:

  • Rowers may erg on their own or with a buddy at a time of their convenience at CCRA Indoors at 137 7th Street, Verplanck. Please see the Masters Independent Practices page for instructions and signup.
  • Rowers that have passed a safety/proficiency test given by the head coach may sign up to row on Lake Meahagh at their convenience, once the air/water warm up to safe temperatures. However, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE a buddy system, for your own safety, and to prevent equipment damage. You cannot row independently during other scheduled practices. Strict adherence to CCRA on-water rules and Lake Meahagh’s traffic pattern is required.

CCRA Masters aims to compete in several local and regional regattas throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons. Races and events will be selected by the head coach based on the competitive potential of the crew and the attitude, attendance, and performance of the individuals throughout the season. Masters opting to race must review and agree to the regatta registration procedures and policies of the club.

Regatta schedule can be found on the Events and Races Calendar page.

  • Regattas scheduled for the spring:
    • CCRA’s Third Annual Ice Cutter Masters Regatta on April 19. We hope this will grow to be a regatta on Masters schedules across the region!
    • Row for the Cure, Hudson River Rowing, Poughkeepsie, May 31: Fee is TBA (approx $10/seat).

All Masters rowers must sign a waiver OR pass a swim test each year consisting of: Swim 50 meters, tread water for 10 minutes, put on a PFD (lifejacket) while in the water. This is for your safety. Contact Dina at [email protected] to arrange to take a swim test.

All Masters must abide by CCRA Safety requirements and watch the US Rowing Safety video. See the Safety Requirements page.
