2020 Spring Little Vikings

4th–6th Grade

Little Vikings learning how to use rowing oars while on land.

A coached rowing program for 4th–6th grade youth to learn the basics of the sport of rowing. There’s a place on the team for everyone.

  • 10 week program, runs from 2/29 – 5/2 (any snow days will be rescheduled one additional week out after 5/2).
  • Coached practices at our indoor facility located at our new location 210 6th Street, Verplanck and at Lake Meahagh Park (weather permitting (pictured at above). We will have one session on 3/1 at West Point’s Indoor Rowing Tanks facility.
  • A sport for everyone! Develops teamwork, fitness, coordination and leadership skills.

Fee $125 per youth rower


Please note some Sundays! No practice during Spring break weekend. Use signup sheet link each week to let us know if your rower is attending!

CCRA’s Indoor Facility: 210 6th Street, Verplanck (the Old Schoolhouse, 2nd floor)
Lake Meahagh, located off Westchester Avenue in Verplanck, weather permitting and advance notification will be given


  • Learn to row basic stroke using Concept 2 Rowing Machines with certified Concept 2 indoor instructor
  • Learn the parts of the boat and basic commands
  • Watch short videos of on-water rowing and discuss what good rowing looks like
  • Row one session in West Point’s Indoor Tank Facility using real oars in moving water, the closest thing to being on the water without being on the water! Spring session will follow with 2 sessions in the tanks.


All Little Vikings who want to participate in on-water activities must pass a swim test each calendar year consisting of: Swim 50 meters, tread water for 10 minutes, put on a PFD (lifejacket) while in the water. This is for your safety.
