Cortlandt Community Rowing Association had a very successful Opening Day on Saturday, May 10 on Lake Meahagh in Verplanck.
A tremendous push by the club, led by Dina Tompkins, resulted in a first class introduction to Verplanck and the greater Cortlandt community. If people were not sure what crew is all about, they know now!
We had a great showing by Newburgh Rowing Club, North Rockland Rowing Club, Kingston High School, Newburgh Free Academy, North Rockland High School, and of course our own CCRA.
Our mixed 8 won their race, which was like a fairytale ending for us. Kudos to Avery, Sam, Maya, Lochlann, Isabel, Nunzio, Geoff and Ollie. Cox was Jillian of Newburgh Rowing Club.
In what other sport will an opposing team bring down an extra boat, and loan it to you, so you can try to beat them? Thank you Coach Kennedy and NRC for the loan of the 4 for the boys race!
Be sure to join us as the Summer unfolds, there will be lots to do and a lot of fun for everyone.
Some of the women are talking about putting together a Masters Women’s 4.
We’d like to enter other races, and possibly the Head of the Fish in Albany this Fall, but we need you!
We have awesome CCRA T-Shirts, Caps, car magnets and drawstring bags for sale. All proceeds go to the club for boats, oars, loudspeakers, etc. CCRA is a not-for-profit club. Email CortlandtRowing@gmail.com if you’d like to make a purchase!
